Tamil Nadu may soon get a new Greenfield airport near Hosur in Krishnagiri district. The state government is working on this plan. Hosur is growing fast because many factories and companies are there. Officials say the city needs its own airport. The airport will help both passengers and cargo services.

Nearly 3,000 Acres Identified

To build the airport, about 2,979 acres of land have been selected from 12 villages.

Out of this land:

  • Around 845 acres already belong to the government.
  • About 2,134 acres belong to private landowners, including farmers.

Most of the land is in Hosur taluk. Some land is in the Shoolagiri taluk of Krishnagiri district.

The villages that may be affected are Balavanapalli, Muthali, Adavanapalli, Dasapalli, Pedha Muthali, Attoor, Alenatham, Kaarupalli, Nandimangalam, Soodukondapalli, Midudepalli, and Venkatesapuram.

Why This Location?

The airport is planned in the Hosur–Berigai–Bagalur–Shoolagiri area. This place is close to the Karnataka border. It is also near Bengaluru.

Because of this, people from both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka may use the airport.

Officials say the airport may serve around 3 crore (30 million) passengers every year. This means it will be a large airport.

What Work Has the Government Started?

The government has started some work on the airport.

  • A consultant will make a report called DTER. It will explain how to build the airport and how much it will cost.
  • The government has asked the Union Civil Aviation Ministry for permission to use the land.
  • A Land Development Plan (LDP) has been made. It has been sent to the Commissioner of Land Administration. If approved, the government can start taking the land.

The airport is near the Bengaluru Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR). This will help people travel to Bengaluru and nearby towns easily.

Concerns and Rules

Some farmers and people living in the villages are worried. Many of them earn money by farming. Losing farmland may affect their work and life. There is a rule for new airports.

  • A new airport cannot be built within 150 km of another airport without special permission.

Bengaluru Airport is about 75 km from Hosur. So, Tamil Nadu may need special approval from the central government. The government also needs airspace approval from the Defence Ministry. Officials say these problems can be solved with proper discussions.

How the Airport Will Help People and Businesses

If all approvals are given, the new airport can help in many ways:

  • More flights: People near Hosur and south Bengaluru will have more planes to travel.
  • Help for businesses: Factories can send and receive goods faster.
  • Easier travel: Business people and local residents can reach other cities more quickly.

The airport can only start after all permissions and approvals are done. The time to build it will depend on how fast these approvals happen.

With the new Hosur airport coming up, connectivity in Bengaluru is improving. Purva Northern Lights, a premium project by Puravankara Group in KIADB Aerospace Park, North Bengaluru, offers 2,600+ modern 2–4 BHK apartments. The size of the flats ranges from 1,010–2,400 sq. ft., and starting from Rs. 1.3 crore. The development is near the highways and the Bagalur Cross metro station (Blue Line Phase 2B).
